Another Kind of Freedom

Just after we tied up in Beaufort, NC the other day, this beauty arrived.

Isn't she lovely?  Although her name is now Freedom (great choice!) the Captain suspects that she was once known as Sequoia, aka the Presidential Yacht!  You never know who you might meet on the ICW....

  1. She was not, in fact, Sequoia but Sequoia's sister ship. Freedom was originally built (1926) as Freedom and although had other names over her life was renamed that after her 6 year restoration which concluded in 2009. Sequoia currently sits in DC in the summer and Chesapeake Virginia in the winter and is in a sorry state to say the least... I would think that her owner would want to keep her as far from Freedom as possible so to not be completely embarrassed. I found more info at www.woodenyachts.com

  2. Thanks Anonymous! We appreciate the input, and we'll check out woodenyachts.com.
We've seen several boats named Freedom since then --but none as beautiful. Family legend has it that the Capn's grandfather had the first privately owned yacht named Freedom in the US--an Alden Schooner purchased about 1921. At that time the only other Freedom was a Navy ship.
